Where is it?
NLCS (North London Collegiate School) is located in Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum City Dubai, UAE.
What were we hired to do?
NLCS hired Moon Kids to design and install a shaded courtyard playground for their Year 1 and Year 2 children, turning the covered atrium into a complete outdoor learning environment. The area was laid with new rubber safety surfacing in natural sand and green tones, shaped into soft play mounds with a crawl tunnel, a climbing face fitted with coloured holds and twin embankment slides, and finished with a themed roadway circuit of lane markings, crossings and a marked parking bay for the school’s trikes and scooters. Around the play landscape we installed natural timber elements including a log clamber frame, balance and see-saw beams, benches and a picnic table. Messy and sensory play is covered by a bordered sand pit, a bark and tyre digging pit, a mud kitchen with sink and taps, and a timber water channel and guttering system with barrels for damming, pouring and flow experiments. Role play centres on a painted playhouse styled as the NLCS EV Station with picket fencing and gate, while wall-mounted peg boards, number and mark-making chalkboards and a loose parts construction kit of timber planks and connector blocks support open-ended, child-led learning. All items were made in natural timber at child-safe heights with rounded edges and hard-wearing outdoor finishes.
